Thunderball Art by Ciriello

Recently discovered the record by Ray Martin on the left. Which made me wonder: Did Ciriello paint the Thunderball artwork without the white box in the middle or not? Does anyone know?

Wired IF he did.

The paint just above the white box is different to the record sleeve version, perhaps suggesting that the box was later removed for the new version, perhaps by someone else?

I feel like I've seen a variant of this same art where Bond wasn't wearing shorts, too. I swear that's not a joke.

The white box was not a part of the original artwork. It was added in the reproduction process which was a very common thing to do (though by no means as easy as it is today with computer software). Reproduction was done by separating the original artwork into four-color films after which text, boxes, lines, graphics and so on could be added.
