Auctioned for £5,400 at Bonham's in London today, quote from their site:
"James Bond: A portrait painting of Roger Moore, attributed to Robert McGinnis, 1974, believed to be the original 'The Man With The Golden Gun' poster artwork, subsequently used throughout the Roger Moore as James Bond promotional campaigns,large format watercolour and gouache on paper, mounted on board, unsigned, 30 x 36 inches"

This artwork was auctioned at Christie's on 15 June 2011 and fetched a staggering £79,250 ($129,574).

Split Artwork


I've always wondered where the artwork for the French Thunderball double poster came from as it's quite different from the artwork used in all the other posters.

It appears to be based on an artwork created by Frank McCarthy without Connery / diver fighting. That artwork was rarely used. The only instance I can think of is the artwork used in the Milton Bradley game from 1965.

Closer investigation of the poster version reveals that it's based on this artwork but was cut-up, re-painted and Connery / diver were added on top, see details below.
I don't even want to think about if the original artwork was cut up...

You Only Live Twice Artwork: Spot the difference

I've recently received a nice print of Robert McGinnis artwork for "You Only Live Twice" used for the international campaign of the film.The international version (top) was toned down compared to the original (bottom), both in terms of the bikini sizes of the women and the addition of Connery's swimming trunks. Not to mention her hand...

Unused Thunderball Artwork

Unused Thunderball artwork by Robert McGinnis.The original (above) was supposedly done for Playboy magazine but never used to my knowledge.This is a restored version using the print from Thomas' Hollywood Collection and his book "Licence To Thrill".

The artwork was toned down (bottom right) and used in a Italian poster
version, re-painted by Averardo Ciriello (bottom left 1) and for the production letterhead of United Artists US (bottom left 2).
